Summer Reading Program Begins!

South Portland Public Library

Join us this summer for our reading program Plant a Seed, Read!  We’ll have reading challenges, fun activities, & awesome prizes for kids, teens, and adults!

Registration begins Wednesday, June 17th at the Main and Branch locations.

Destination Storytime at Bug Light Park!

South Portland Public Library

Join us for stories and songs for all ages at Bug Light Park!  Tuesdays at 10:30am, weather permitting.

Silent Book Group

South Portland Public Library

Our Silent Book Group now meets weekly! Adult readers are invited to bring a book of their choice for an hour of uninterrupted, dedicated and silent reading time. Participants are welcome to talk books before and after the reading time, or not. Meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Main Library.

Branch Book Group!

South Portland Public Library

The Branch Book Group meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 1pm at our Branch location at 155 Wescott Rd.

Want to gather in-person with some fellow book lovers? Join Malia (Circulation Librarian) in reading diverse books followed by friendly discussions at our monthly Branch Book Group! All are welcome to join at any time!

Perler Bead Crafting

Kids ages 6+ are invited to join us at the Main Library on Wednesday, July 8th at 3pm for an afternoon of Perler Bead crafting at the Main Library. Space is limited and preregistration is required.

Fresh Food Event with The Locker Project

South Portland Public Library

The Locker Project will be in the parking lot of the Main Library sharing local farm produce and other nourishing food on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 8th at 3:30pm
  • Friday, July 24th at 11:00am
  • Wednesday, August 12th at 3:30pm
  • Friday, August 28th at 11:00am

All are welcome!

Garden & Composting Storytime at Hinckley Park

South Portland Public Library

Got food scraps? Don’t throw them away!  Join Ecomaine at the Hinckley Park Community Garden on Friday, July 10th at 10:30am to learn all about food waste, composting and nature’s recycling system and one specific way compost can be created in small spaces with an up-close exploration of a red wiggler worm bin! (In the case of inclement weather, we’ll meet inside the Main Library in the Community Room).

Magic Show with Phil Smith

South Portland Public Library

Join magician Phil Smith and his live rabbit at the Main Library on Saturday, July 11th at 10:30am for an exciting show of illusions, comedy, and juggling! All ages!

Read with Ferris

South Portland Public Library

Come read to Ferris the therapy cat at the Main Library! 15-minute time slots are available on Tuesday, July 14th starting at 3:30pm.

Recommended for children who are independent readers. Registration required – stop by the Children’s Room or call Youth Services at 207-767-7660 x3 to sign up!

Please note, Ferris is not a lap cat, and will likely be roaming a bit while being read to.

Teen Open Mic Night

South Portland Public Library

On Tuesday, July 14th at 5:30pm is Teen Open Mic Night at the library, and the only rules are:

  • Be a Teen
  • Bring your A-Game!

The stage will be yours for up to 5 minutes – any performance arts are welcome! Sign up to perform, or just come to watch!

Performance sign-ups will be available starting 30 minutes before the show.
